I just came back from spending a week on vacation with my husband’s family. It was different from our usual yearly trip to Canada where we are actively fishing and portaging and busy all day. This year, we went to my future-sister-in-law’s family’s cabin and spent most of our time hanging out at the beach on the lake. I surprised myself in that I actually enjoyed relaxing and doing nothing. I tend to be the kind of person who likes to constantly have plans (see my calendar any other day of my life), but it was really nice to spend time sitting in a beach chair reading a book for fun or journaling on the dock at sunset.

I had some really good journaling sessions. I mapped out a 10, 5, and 2 year vision for my life and my NFP Pharmacist business. And I even wrote a poem about pelicans! (Maybe I will share at a later time).

What really made it the BEST, though, was that I got my period!!! If you aren’t familiar with my story, I am recovering from functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (FHA or HA). Basically, it means my brain isn’t getting the right signals from my body and so it doesn’t always produce estrogen. I have been dealing with this on and off since the birth of my daughter in November 2017, getting my first period after having her in June 2019. I had a few regular cycles through September, missed in October and November, and then my last period was in January 2020. This year I have been making a lot of different lifestyle changes including eating more healthy fats, getting more sleep, and seeing a holistic chiropractor.

I started seeing some peak-type mucus a couple weeks ago and I was hopeful that meant I was really ovulating, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Thankfully, I decided to bring my menstrual cup with me on vacation, so when I saw some blood in the middle of the week, I was prepared! And it was a full real period!!

This is a reminder to you that you CAN recover from whatever you are dealing with. You CAN get better. You CAN see those results you want to see. It may take longer than you want, it may take more work than you hoped for, but you CAN do it.
