Are you wanting to practice natural family planning, but you don’t know where to start? Did you try Googling NFP or searching for fertility tracking apps and are unsure what information out there is accurate?

Have you been trying to become pregnant and frustrated with the time it is taking? Are you trying to avoid pregnancy and wanting to use a method that is scientifically proven to be effective? Maybe you are taking hormonal contraceptives and scared to make a switch.

Are you pregnant, breastfeeding, or thinking about becoming pregnant, and wondering if your prescription medications or vitamins/supplements are safe to keep taking? Do you use a natural tea or protein drink and wondering if that has any effect on you or your baby? Are you curious if you should start taking something when trying to become pregnant that would help you and your baby be healthiest?

This is where your NFP pharmacist is here to help. I have done the research for you into the available natural family planning methods. I can help you learn the basics of each method, help you decide which one may be best for you, and connect you with the resources to ensure you are successful with the method. In addition, I will review any medications (including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements) you are taking or thinking about taking and provide any guidance to make sure your regimen is safe and effective. I will help you understand why it is recommended to take a supplement even before you become pregnant.

There are multiple NFP methods out there. Some have scientific evidence showing they can help couples achieve pregnancy sooner than “chance,” and  some have been proven to be more than 95% effective in avoiding pregnancy even after one year of use.

As a pharmacist and a natural family planning educator, I want you to have all the resources you need to make the best family planning decision for you and your family. Check out my medication list template and other helpful documents here.

I know how difficult it can be to navigate the world of NFP. Even after converting to Catholicism, I kept taking birth control pills. Even after making commitments to take care of my body by eating mostly real foods, I continued to put artificial hormones in my body. Although I felt plagued by guilt (when I let myself think about it), I had only learned about hormonal options in pharmacy school, and I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to avoid pregnancy with a natural method. When working 40+ hours per week and especially just after having my first child, I felt stuck taking the pill. Then, when I had difficulty conceiving my second child, I tried figuring out NFP on my own, but I was frustrated with the vague information on the internet and the lack of resources from my church or my doctor. After my daughter was born, I finally took the time and effort to seek out information and I found a scientifically-backed method and an instructor to teach me. Now I’ve been practicing NFP for over 2 years and I couldn’t be happier with this decision. I don’t want you to have to put in the amount of work or feel the frustration that I did. I want to give you the information you need to make the right decision for you and your family.

I truly appreciate you taking your time to meet with me. I think pharmacists are extremely under acknowledged and play an extremely important role in healthcare.

The information Emily provided was more than what I knew, and the subsequent conversation I had with my doctor led me to asking effective questions.

This was something I had never thought about doing before but the experience was wonderful and even more helpful than I had anticipated!! I would be willing to pay $100-150 for the medication review alone

Emily was very responsive to my questions and concerns and came prepared. Thank you!

It was comforting to know that my medications & supplements did not conflict with one another.
